When i heard news of Aaliyah's tragic death i was devasted. As well as being a fantastic singer she was also on her way to becoming a great actress. It must have been devasting for her family and for the families of those who also lost their lives. I felt sad for the families of Aaliyah's friends on board who also lost their lives such as Eric Forman, a kind and gentle person who we saw on Aaliyah's MTV Diary. Aaliyah was very close to her family and friends and this was a tragic accident that maybe could and should have been avoided. All we know now though is that Aaliyah is in a better place where she will help and inspire others to achieve their goals.

Aaliyah was more than just a musician, she was an all round entertainer who would have achieved so many greater things in her life. I first became a fan in 1995 when i heard her album "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number". I bought all her singles and couldn't stop playing tracks like "Back & Forth", "The Thing I Like" and "At Your Best". From that moment I was a fan for life. I used to spend hours on the internet searching for news and details on Aaliyah, as in the UK there was no coverage of her apart from MTV. I remember when a late night programme called "Amour" on MTV used to show all the best R&B songs from the USA, and Aaliyah's videos were always on. I recorded all her videos and played them over and over again. I told all my friends about her because i knew she was amazing.
When "One In A Million" came out in 1996 i was blown away completely. Gone was the girl with the baggy trousers and in came the new sexy and seductive woman. The video for "If Your Girl Only Knew" was amazing when i first saw it, the motorcycle and the house with all the people in it. The new Timbaland beats were unbelievable, they were simply genius. They sounded new, innovative and unlike anything i had ever heard. Then "One In A Million" simply made my jaws drop. An amazing song with smooth vocals that made it sound so unique. The whole look, sound and aura from Aaliyah was just mesmerising. This album in my opinion is without doubt the best album of the 1990's up to present. It represents a breakthrough in music that changed R&B completely. Timbaland's genius beats and Missy Elliot's lyrics together with Aaliyah's vocals made for a dream team. I always knew she was unique and always looked forward to her next single and video. In the USA she was popular, but in the UK not that many people knew about her. It was only until "Romeo Must Die" that people started to take real notice which was a shame as "One In A Million" deserved much more attention in the UK.

Her death has left me and all of us with what might have been. All of us would have loved to have seen her in the Matrix sequels as she would have left her own mark on it. Since her untimely death, my interest in music hasn't been the same and many times i can only think of why she had to be taken away. She never deserved to die so young which made it so tragic. I have never felt the need to listen to any other artist, as Aaliyah was the best that ever was in my opinion. I will always buy all of Aaliyah's music and videos as will all of the fans, as it will keep the legend and memories of her well and truly alive. She was an inspiration to me and millions of people around the world and showed that by hard work and dedication you can succeed in anything you want. Her death has made many of us appreciate what we have in life. There is no point in worrying about the future, we must enjoy our life every day like Aaliyah did. Her name meant "The Highest, Most Exalted" and that is how i will always remember her.

Rest In Peace Aaliyah, We Miss You, & Will Never Forget You
